FreeKeys FTA Satellite

I've always had a standard definition set top box which is connected up to my cable TV. However, recently, I heard about free to air (FTA) satellite receivers (I know, not very up to date!). Could someone please explain to me the difference between them and what exactly a FTA satellite receiver does? Is a blind scan (FTA receiver) merely searching for channels similar to picking up of different channels when you first set up the standard definition STB? I'm really confused! Fingers crossed someone can help!

This should have quick and easy access to bin files. With less down time in between the aquisition of the bin files.

I have a Strong 6155 receiver. I accidentaliy deleted everything ( or so it appears to me) by returning to 'factory settings' I thought by doing so i would only clear settings i had choosen myself

I know i need at least a 31" dish with a motor. What type of LNB should i go with and how many ? i would like a receiver thats easy to use and has a USB port for updating and an auto channel search any recommendations

So with a motorized dish i can pick up more birds ( not at the same time) then with a stationary dish is this correct ? the more LNB's i have only means i can have more receivers in turn more TV's ?

I have an Fta VS, and i want to get HD since i bought an HD LCD Tv, now, If i get an HD sattlite receiver, WIll it pick up the channels that are HD, or is there a differnt Sattlite i have to Pick from example "echostar8,1 echostar 7.??? will HD Work on tho's ones? or do i need a differnt one.. So lets say, echostar 8-10 if i had an HD receiver would the channels on there Come up HD??

i would like to know which receiver is best. the only thing i want on it is DVR, i want to record shows and things when im not home
