Satellite TV Support Forums for Everyone!

FTA satellite enthusiasts number in the millions. FTA satellite television is globally accessible, and for that reason offers so many alternatives to cable and antenna based television programming. No matter if you are new to FTA or have been enjoying fta satellite television, there is almost always one common thread that links all fta users together. That being the FTA Satellite community itself.

New FTA users often have a difficult time learning the in and out’s of FTA satellite and there is absolutely no better way than to join a satellite receiver forum. FTA Satellite receiver forums and IRC chat channels are the primary source for the absolute latest news, updates, and of course fta keys. There is no better way to learn about FTA satellite than using forums and drawing upon the experienced community to help you.

Not all forum’s are alike mind you. Many forums are subscription based, or called “VIP” forums whereby you must purchase a membership. These types of forums also offer some additional services such as one to one support, quick response times to support questions and the most recent receiver file updates. The majority of fta support forums are free, however these as well are not always created equal. There are many forums, but each has its own individual arrangement and setup.

Many forums also offer support for related technologies such as computers and networking. Finding a forum that suits your needs and preferences will take some experimentation. A great forum to start with is myftahome.com. MyftaHome offers front page updates as they happen - which in the case of satellite keys is very important. In addition to the latest news, you will also find the latest satellite receiver files and updates.

The most important information you need from a satellite tv forum is the real-time status of the actual satellite services themselves and if there are any ECM’s in the stream; the latest updates to receiver files, andlast bu not least - the latest fta satellite keys. myftahome is one example of a few great forums that offer all of this information - in a glance.

FTA receivers have minimal controls on the set top box itself, and changing decryption keys requires usage of the remote control. There are many different types of fta satellite receivers, with absolutely no common ground between them. Remotes are all different, and on screen displays within the set top receiver are also varied. Fortunately, each receiver has an onscreen legend to help.

The first problem - how do you actually navigate to the menus to change the keys? (read below for instructions)

The second problem is where are the letter buttons? Each remote has typically numbers  0 to 9. Letters can be found onscreen, in the legend at the bottom of the onscreen menu.

Free to Air Satellite Questions

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

What are Free To Air (FTA) satellite tv channels?
Free to Air satellite television channels are digital MPEG2 channels that are not scrambled and do not require a subscription to view them.
They are provided by many satellite and television broadcasters to allow reception any FTA satellite receiver. You can find a listing of these channels on many websites such lyngsat.com and satcodx.com.

What hardware do I need to receive the FTA channels?
Reception of FTA satellite tv channels is done using a digital satellite receiver ( FTA receiver) and a small satellite dish with a KU Band LNB (head)

Do you guarantee that these FTA channels will remain free?
As technology changes, new channels are added, and old ones are retired. The choices that satellite tv broadcasters offer can change at any time. You will receive FTA channels as long as they remain free and not encrypted by the broadcaster.

Are there any Dish Network, Bell Express Vu, or DirecTV channels that are FTA?
Almost all of the channels provided by these companies are encrypted and require a subscription. There are a few exceptions such as religious programming, informational channels, and NASA.

Can I use an FTA receiver to receive encrypted channels on Dish Network, Bell Express Vu, or DirecTV?
Legally, absolutely not! However illegally, there is a huge gray market for these activities. These channels require subscription and special receivers supplied by the service provider. Any tampering with your FTA receiver (whether by hardware or software modification) to try to receive the encrypted channels without a valid subscription is not only a violation of the law, but will also void the warrantee on your receiver and may render it unusable.

What size dish I need for the Free to air channels?
For the C-Band signal channels you will need a 10 ft dish, however these are not as common. For KU-band channels you will need a 30 inch (76 cm) dish or larger.

Where can I find out what channels are available free to air?
There are many free to air channels available in North America on satellites such as Galaxy 10R, AMC4, Telstar 5, AMC3, etc. There are from the USA and from around the world. Visit lyngsat.com for more details, and a complete listing of what is available. Anything with an “F designation” is considered FREE TO AIR.

How do I find the satellites?
The satellite you want to use will be determined by the programming you want to view. Telstar 5 is a very popular satellite for ethnic channels. Locate your satellite programming on one of the web sites listed above and align your dish to that satellite.

How do I move my dish to get more satellites and more channels?
If you have a receiver that has DiSEqC 1.2 (input switch) you can easily view more satellites and more channels by adding a DiSEqC motor to move your dish. These motors are configured to align your satellite dish with the various angles and settings. This allows you to access many satellites with a single dish and a single receiver.
